Permanent Mexico Resident Card Process Simple. Clear. Done Right.


How the Process Works


1. Apply at a Mexican Consulate (USA)

Your application starts at a Mexican consulate in the U.S.
This is where your eligibility is approved.


2. Get Your Permanent Resident Visa

If approved, a Permanent Resident Visa is placed in your passport.
✔️ Valid for up to 6 months
✔️ Allows you to enter Mexico and finish the process


3. Get Your Permanent Resident Card (Canje)

After entering Mexico, you visit the INM immigration office near your new home.
✔️ The visa is exchanged for your Permanent Resident Card
✔️ This step is called canje
✔️ Your status is permanent — no renewals


Who Qualifies?


You may qualify through:


✔️ Retirement or pension income
✔️ Savings or investments
✔️ Marriage to a Mexican citizen
✔️ Marriage to a Permanent Resident
✔️ Mexican-born children


Retirement or Pension Income Requirements

You can qualify by showing financial stability, such as:

✔️ Monthly income: about $8,751.00 USD (last 6 months), or
✔️ Savings/investments: about $350,000.00 USD (12-month minimum)

(Amounts vary by consulate and exchange rate.)


Family-Based Permanent Residency

✔️ Married to a Mexican citizen
✔️ Married to a Permanent Resident
✔️ Parent of a Mexican-born child (any age)
